Flowering Plants of the Falkland Islands

This newly published book contains detailed information on the most important flowering plants of the Falkland Islands. There are easy to follow descriptions with definitive line drawings and close up colour photographs to help with the identification of forty-six beautiful and distinctive plants. It is part of an ambitious project to record the abundance and distribution of all Falkland plants.

There have been many changes in the Falkland flora over the past two centuries. Much of the natural vegetation, including the original tussac grass fringe, has been damaged by uncontrolled grazing or burning, leading to soil erosion in some areas. Plants have been introduced to improve pastures or provide shelter for livestock, but others were accidental introductions. Recent developments in agriculture and the growth of tourism are putting additional pressures on the environment while new roads are providing access to sites that were rarely visited. It is therefore important that endemic, interesting or potentially useful Falkland plants are discovered and recorded.
